I wonder if undercover soldiers/intelligence agents actually carried IDs which stated they were members of the armed forces. I suppose if they were carrying weapons, an ID would come in useful if they were stopped by the RUC. And I suppose if a guy with an English accent and a handgun was caught by the IRA, they're gonna assume he's a soldier whether he's got an ID or not.

Special forces carry ID stating what they are.

The SAS record in the North was second to none.

Well looks like they did'nt have all their own way either!

Anyway didn't the IRA ambush and kill two SAS operatives back in the '80s which the Brits never owned up to?

There were two SAS casulties, Westmacott and a coporel at different times. Both don to operational errors, whats amazing is the few civilian casulties in all this incidents, compare that to the reocord of the republics emergency response unit who once managed to wound 27 civilans in the early 90s arresting some banks robbers, RTE news said the op was a successs.

while the IRA units were sophisticated bomb makers, 99% of the time they were never going to walk away from SAS ambushs. Which the link shows.

SAS soldiers in Hereford fire on average 200-300 round a day in everday training/the killing house/practising ambushes etc. aparently that the level of training it takes to stay 100% sharp.

it happened on a number of occasions , one of their covert o.ps here in s armagh was completely riddled for a good 10 mins with heavy automatic gunfire . On another occasion troops took up an open o.p on a spot that had been attacked some time previously were a covert hide had been located only to find a British army boot with a decomposed foot in it .The incident you refer to in Tyrone was witnessed by numerous people including the local priest . The British army taunted local people initially on seeing the bullet riddled car , knowing that the SAS had been active in the village preparing an ambush. It was shortly afterwards they realised it was the SAS team that had come to grief and hastily remioved the bodies , followed weeks later by the obligatory middle of the night traffic accident in cyprus .
My favourite was when the RUC wiped out a bunch after mistaking them for provos . If i can remeber correctly an RUC officer got himself shot dead outside the gates of the Bessbrook barracks by British troops in reprisal for the mistake not that long after it . An old protestant chum told me about that .

I wonder if undercover soldiers/intelligence agents actually carried IDs which stated they were members of the armed forces.
    of course they did

More republican fiction, why would they need to pretend troops died in road accident in Cyrprus, when they could just use the name of their parent regiment and not the SAS ?

The SAS destroyed IRA moral which is why you had to invent ficticious victories which you clamed 'the Brits' had covered up.

The people of Cappagh witnessed their killing. So did the local priest who I believe gave last rites on the two SAS men.
