I think we already know that, odie: said former inhabitant did a deal with the then-Pope.

Pot... Kettle... (and I'll leave the rest of that particular Trinity to the reader's imagination).

I'm every bit as open about my anti-catholic anti-catholic agenda as you are of your anti-FG agenda.

    What's an anti-catholic story?

I do not expect RTÉ to report on every story that shows the Catholic Church up in a bad light: What I do expect of them is to report on more than none of them.

    But you know that already.

Incidentally, I have also commented on islamic aggression and protestant bellyaching on being discriminated against because some of their preferential funding has been removed (for example).

I haven't commented much on scientology, but I think you'll find that what little I've said against scientology has been more than odie.

This is really old news. Most of the offences took place years ago in the 60s and 70s. I wonder why the scandal only came to light recently given that secular Germany has not been under the thumb of the RCC.

Because the Catholic Church has become very good at covering these things up...

No. My questions is why it took the victims so long to come forward.

Miss placed shame. Fear of the consequences. Catholic guilt. Who knows?

    Pope's brother admits hitting pupils

The brother of Pope Benedict said in an interview today he slapped pupils in the face at a German school where he led the choir, but had been unaware of the brutality of discipline there.

We did come forward but our stories were dismissed OUT of hand for years until they -Gardai/Solicitors/social workers except for RCC realised that something was going on and fishy.Even a solicitor back then didn't believe us as she thought that we were telling porkies & loads of blarney as well !! She realised it later that it actually happened and by then it was too late.

He certainly wouldn't be the first gay pope in recent(ish) years. Paul VI hardly bothered to hide his string of handsome young priests.

And please spare me the moral outrage and demand for signed statements of proof from the popes themselves.
I really don't think the Pope's deeply and officially repressed sexuality, gay or straight, has anything to do with the issue of covering-up and basically facilitating child abuse.

There's a constant attempt by various people on this site to somehow connect child abuse and homosexuality and it's pretty counterproductive and very offensive.

The fact is that the Catholic Church as an organisation covered-up abuse and left children and vulnerable adults in terrible situations where they were preyed upon.
