Tried to respond to prior comments with a dose of reality. Hence my mentioning of the already busy US Military machine.

The USA has won a number of Wars since 1945 - some directly, some indirectly.

The only War Uncle Sam totally lost in a direct confrontation was in Vietnam.

If the USA wanted to they could take out Iran and force her to submit.

The Iranians know this too - so the only card they can play (until they get the nukes up and running) is to make it clear to the West that any attack on Iran will not be a cost free exercise.

I never said they were stupid or insane, but if they are attacked by Israel they will retaliate in any way they can. And the scenario I described is one such way. As I said, difficult, but not impossible.

In regards to Iran's Nuclear program
1) The IAEA constantly has refuted claims that Iran has diverted to a military nuclear weapons program on several occasions
2) Denials by Iranians themselves just like Iraqis before them
3) Russia and China have a strategic, political and economic interest in Iran
4) If Israelis and/or USA have first strike what do you think the response would be?

That would be up to the Iranian leadership. They could do a lot of things and perhaps nothing. What did the Iraqis do after their nuclear reactor was bombed?
I think the influence of China and Russia over Iran is over estimated. What is the worst they can do to Iran? Stop buying their oil, stop selling them weapons? In the event of a confrontation between Iran the Israel how they respond will come down to themselves.

My opinion is nothing is going to happen.

You lot are aware that a dirty bomb is very easy to build. All they are, are ordinary explosives and waste radioactive material or regular non-enriched Uranium, all of which Iran and most nation states have in abundance. They would not need to buy a dirty bomb from the North Koreans.

If the Iranians wanted dirty bombs they could have built plenty of them by now.

Iran has more of a right since Israel already has the US Nuke umbrella for protection.

In the case of beating Iran into submission would be totally pharric. Not wishing to overstate Iran has some influence in the region, it already has a defence pact with Syria for one. The militias in Iraq. Then Hamas and Hezbollah as allies. Even some influence in Afghanistan which helps the Americans on the ground. The Iranians hated the previous Afghan regime calling them 'The Black Taliban.'

The Russians and Chinese have a considerable financial stake in Iran. Even now they continue to oppose further sanctions. Seem likely to keep protecting their friend in the Middle East.

Like yourself I believe nothing will happen, the reason: Iran is a regional powerhouse.
