I just saw a young lad being pulled out of the rubble after 8 f@cking days today.
A bit younger than my young lad, and no doubt many more are slowly dying in absolute fear and solitude under a concret tomb, as I write.
3000 died on Sept 11th. We're now looking at 200'000 dying in Haiti.
The absolute rage I feel at people like this who go out of their way to begrudge aid to Haiti, or write smart alec articles like Kevin Myers is immense, and only dwarfed by my total loss of faith in the Human spirit. I really despair at what drives a young man to feel motivated to go out of his way to PLEA to us not to help the incredible suffering in Haiti.

Where the f.UC.k were you, and your faux OUTRAGE when Haiti wasn't being covered on TV?

Where the f.UC.k will you be when Haiti disappears off the TV in a couple of weeks time?

F.UC.K you and your faux outrage!

You are worse than the c.UN.ts who caused this mess!

More often that not the people who say something along the lines of "Don't give money there, we need it here instead" givemoney neither here nor there. Haiti is a tragedy, and yes tthere are others, but that does not diminish Haiti's need.

That's a fair point, but they're certainly going to get money from the international community and probably have their national debt forgiven. If it's a case that you have €20 to donate then sure send it to them. But I wouldn't redirect the €20 a month you're giving Gorta or Halo Trust in favour of them.

I sent some money to UNICEF. It is earmarked to help child victims of the earthquake. I won't miss the money, and it's going to help people who may not have eaten for days. Now is not the time for cynical YouTubes. Now it's a matter of give, even if all you can spare is very little, or just let people die unnnecessarily. Not a hard choice for me.

The US and any other country that sees itself as an overarching decider on how Haiti should be run - should be the ones to stump up free grants (not 'aid' which are loans causing more misery through debt) to rebuild the country and feed clothe it's citizens while necessary. If you insist on interfering, creating this terrible inequality and poverty, supporting coups and tyrants then when the people are left destitute and as a result of that destitution killed in huge numbers by a natural disaster - then you are responsible.

It is the similiar scenario to Ireland circa 1847 but not quite to as much of a degree (since the country is nominally independent) that when the conditions on the ground are caused or encouraged by foreign agents or powers then those powers are responsible when those conditions cost lives, it should not be left to private donations anyway but the US Govt (whose branch the CIA are heavily involved in shaping the country to their will) who pays.
