The USSR didnt need to impose pinochets elsewhere, in stalin and others they had their own, but since you ask ter regimes the socviets proppsed up in the eastern bloc in places like albania and east germany......and their colonisation of finland....

All of these are peripheral territories to Russia and constituted a protective buffer zone, as I said in the previous post. I disagree with it (as did Lenin in the case of Georgia) but it was of a different character to colonialism.

Russia was a country that experienced mass starvation and that had a police state before the revolution. On its own, and under conditions of civil war and multiple invasion, post WW1, it did not succeed in overcoming its economic and social underdevelopment.
After WW2, a lot of gains were made, but ultimately continued isolation, the costs of the arms race with the US and the actions of the bureaucracy dragged it down.

thats off topic but I'll indulge you..........the US hasnt had much to recommend it for a number of years...thats true and I would hate any country to be governed like Bush governed america.......but or indeed to a lesser extent as clinton governed it............but there are still many more compelling reasons to live there than there are/were to live in the coveit union or in china or most of the non capitalist world
