Ireland implicated in EU extraordinary rendition report

"The European Parliament in Strasbourg has approved a damning report implicating 14 member states, including Ireland, in secret CIA flights involving the transport of terrorism suspects. 382 MEPs voted to approve the report, with 256 voting against. The report criticises governments for their alleged complicity in what it calls the illegal abduction of terrorism suspects by the US, known as extraordinary renditions."

Considering how much this country relies on American business and judging by how easily the Gardaí are used and influenced by the government, even if these planes used in rendition had been searched who is to say that the public would have ever been informed if anyone abducted by the CIA were ever found.

Fianna Fáil have permitted the transportation of American soilders and arms through this country since the beginning of the Iraq invasion. Without a doubt FF are in the pocket of Bush and Co.

The continued existance of pseudo-gangs, such as the contos and rira, provides justification for the draconian laws and erosion of civil liberties that advance the NWO agenda in Ireland. The establishments, north and south, are utterly complicit and it's only a matter of time before Irish citizens are being renditioned to eastern Europe.

Hardly applies to the above though.

Its a real case of shallow Bertie fudge meeting reality.

I think the sad truth is our 'policy' owes an amount to getting a bit of business for Shannon. Even if there was no American expectation of assitance, we'd still be welcoming the traffic.
However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.

I think Shannon is perfect evidence of our sham neutrality. Now we have the proof. Secondly, the human rights aspect of this scenario is simply dreadful.

Agreed, it's blood money. And the fact that the Israeli militrary have transitted Apache attack helicopters (sorry, peace making food distributers) really shows how up to our necks we've allowed ourselves to become, for short term profit. Our international credibility as a non-expansionist, empire-free country is one of perception. The constant use of Shannon as a US military base and it's use on rendition flights undermines Ireland's credibility. I was going to say neutrality, but Bertie sold that years ago.

Ireland didn't struggle for 800 years with one European empire just to have it replaced with another. You've got to question the motives of those behind the report - after all, their own countries hardly have clean hands.

What have armed republican groups got to do with the governments inability to search these planes?

The fact is that the Irish Government has no backbone.
