Garda said as an Irish citizen I have the right to have my name in Irish on my passport. Anyone confirm this?

In theory, yes. In reality. no.

In reality they will ask for Government issued proof that you have been using the Irish version of your name for the last two years. The catch 22 being that the Irish Government will not issue proof of you using the Irish version of your name until they have official proof that you have been using it for two years.
