Interesting question all right.
Wouldn't wish it on anyone really but but if he were to resign over failing sight then he would be gone as Leader of the Labour Party too.
That would mean a care taker PM and perhaps a somewhat earlier election - but while such a scenario would be high political drama its not going to effect the outcome
- as whoever the LP would pick to succeed Browne none of them have what it takes to turn things around at this stage.

David Blunkett represented his constituancy for over 20 years while fully blind, and was a minister for 7 years. So as long as he didn't need to take a huge amount of time off to deal with it he would be able to continue on as leader if he wants to. Being realistic at this point, he's there until the general election and then gone. I think he'll hang on until then.
His eye is fine - a tear doesn't make any difference - he gets checks as he is blind in one eye - the eye sight is the least of his worries.
He will resign at the end of March in time for a snap election in April so a new LAbour leader can get a bounce and Brown can take the blame for all he did wrong then when the Tories are put under the pressure of a campaign their policies will be shown up and when it comes to the crunch of actually voting Tory rather than answering a poll about voting Tory then I would guess a hung parliament and a Labour/Liberal government.
That article is a very thinly veiled piece of discrimination. His eyesight, or lack thereof, can easily be accommodated so as he could continue in office. What could he not do with proper assistance??

To such ones the modern world is nothing but betrayal and ruin.........We feel bound to disagree with these prophets of doom who are forever forecasting calamity -- as though the world's end were imminent."
If labour decide the game is up (and it probably is) then this would be a convenient way out for Gordon.
If labour feel that Gordon going early can save them from an absolutely catastrophic defeat then maybe he would go.
Mind you a leadership contest would be pretty messy so close to an election.
