You mean Bertie's daughter is not in the running for the Literature prize? How shocking.

I am a big Obama fan and am really, really willing him well in the face of cynicism and mean-spiritedness.

    But this is plain absurd.

You can't do much about it though. This is the worlds first chance to start that process in a very long time. I think this prize is saying the world wants him to make good on his vision. Perhaps they hope that the opposition he faces at home will recede in the face of worlds approval . If so they will be disappointed. Those who oppose him in the US see world disapproval as a badge of honour. They care nothing for what happens beyond their borders.

Giving this award to Obama has made worthless the award to all who have received it in the past and future recipients. In all fairness what has he done in less then 1 year in office to merit this award or even be considered? An absolute farce and a disgrace.

Well in fairness Carter did win one in 2002 years after he had left office:

    Presumably Obama won his:
"for his months of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development" ??

Peace prize for seeking an aim that he will not achieve in his time as President. What a joke!

This is a complete farce, Barack Obama's impact on world affairs thus far has been marginal to say the least.

Maybe the selection committee wanted to get the award to him before he had a chance to really screw up. This is just plain embarrassing.

Is this to make up for Rio getting the Olympics? I can't think of any other explanation.
