Hilarious. However the Prize has been increasingly used to encourage key figures to compromise and make efforts towards peace. Interesting to see the reaction this gets in certain quaters internationally. It does smack a bit though snug liberal bum licking.

Unfortunately I agree it devalues the prize. He hasn't proved himself yet.
It dismisses the often dangerous work of people on the ground trying to resolve conflicts all over the world to give it to someone who has no track record in promoting peace. His approaches in diplomacy are good, but it remains to be seen whether they will produce peace or appeasement.

Shame for all those who put their lives in danger for peace.

BBC US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
    CNN confirms

This is a most odd prize, as he hasn't accomplished that much yet ?

Precisely... one would generally grant such an award in respect of a full career. They'll regret giving it if they end up going to war with Iran... madness really.

It is very funny though - has great potential for satire depending how the term of office turns out.

Gas how his bosses can fix these types of things, when his popularity is on the slide.FFS he's bombing the shyte of Pakistan and afghanistan, sending more troop to war, increasing military spending. This is some load of billix. It makes a laugh out of the peace prize.
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.
