Enda Kenny's lies to the Forum on Europe

Anyone pick up on Enda Kenny’s orwellian policy shift at the Forum on Europe yesterday.

It will be recalled when asked by Ursla Halligan on The Political Party earlier this year (07/05/06), if he were Taoiseach would he “welcome Romanian and Bulgarian workers without restriction” into Ireland, Kenny indicated he would.

Over the summer the party u-turned on this position, however yesterday during his speech at the National Forum on Europe Kenny went a step further claiming “Closer to home, as we saw it, there were obvious issues of responsibility when it came to the accession of Bulgaria and Romania. From the outset, FG has been adamant that work-permits should apply for those seeking to come here from those two countries. We are pleased, even relieved, that the Government adopted our position on this matter. But, perhaps, we didn’t have to worry too much that our view would not be adopted. Because, it was obvious that once the UK mad made its decision, it was inevitable we would follow suit."

Squealer would be most impressed with these lies...

Yeah. And he was on the news bleating that the government were adopting the policy he advocated in restricting Bulgarian/Rumanian immigration as he suggested!

How come none of the main stream media have not picked up on this clear pack of lies. FG's private polling must have indicated how out of touch they were on this issue as well as out of step with Labour and the Unions.

Some mod amended the title of this thread from "Kenny’s orwellian u-turn on Fine Gael immigration policy" to "Kenny U-turn on Fine Gael immigration policy", would the mod in question to explain why? Either way I've changed it back.

Orwellian - "The denial or rewriting of past events", seems like an apt word to describe what Kenny tried to do?

Certainly worthy of explaination as although either title conveys the same message quite why would a Moderator consider this to be a reasonable use of their powers is worthy of further explaination.

Kenny has gone one further – he’s attempting create the impression in the public mind that he and Fine Gael always supported immigration restrictions with regard to Bulgaria and Romania, something that’s simply untrue. By his measure that interview never happened. This is a blatant attempt to rewrite history; Dear Leader could learn a few tricks from him.

He said so in his original post it was on the TV3 'The Political Party'. He even gave the date. I recollect seeing it myself. You should read the original post!

Fine Gael has had this policy for a good while. I posted up a press release from Bernard Allen FG's spokesperson for foreign affairs a good while back calling on the government to do what they have done. Now maybe we had a different policy before, I'm not sure, but either way parties often change their polices either because they look into an area further and find out they were wrong the first time or else the situation changes. It wouldn’t be good for Ireland if every party never changed there polices. Polices are flexible and can be changed especially before the manifesto is released.
