For another, for all his talk, if McDowell stands by Bertie through this latest fiasco he has totally lost his role as government watchdog and as an honest party to counter FF. They are now in essence FF. Floating FGers may have been tempted but now there is too close an affiliation.

but who else could they possibly try as leader? they're running out of faces? and it didnt do another former FGer too badly when he jumped. he's tanaiste now. dunno about everyone in FG being comfy with the left wing economically. former/current FGers are helping Morrissey in dublin north at the moment instead of their own candidate.....
