There's rumblings of this now Mickey D has taken the reins. I wouldn't think they're too worried about it really.

For one thing Fine Gael having steadily moved towards the left since the start of the decade, as can be seen by they're large young membership. That's not exactly in the PD's direction anymore!

For another, for all his talk, if McDowell stands by Bertie through this latest fiasco he has totally lost his role as government watchdog and as an honest party to counter FF. They are now in essence FF. Floating FGers may have been tempted but now there is too close an affiliation.

but who else could they possibly try as leader? they're running out of faces? and it didnt do another former FGer too badly when he jumped. he's tanaiste now. dunno about everyone in FG being comfy with the left wing economically. former/current FGers are helping Morrissey in dublin north at the moment instead of their own candidate.....
