FG strategist claims party could gain 29 Dail seats
12:50 Thursday September 14th 2006
A leading Fine Gael strategist has claimed that the party would gain between 25 and 29 seats if a general election took place tomorrow.
Speaking at the party's policy meeting in Sligo today, Frank Flannery said Fianna Fail would lose 20 seats based on recent opinion polls.
Fine Gael members have been expressing renewed optimism about their electoral prospects at the Sligo think-in, claiming fatigue with the current Government is continuing to increase.
The party says more and more voters are turning to the opposition due to their unhappiness with the Fianna Fail-Progressive Democrats coalition.
Fine Gael members say their two-day policy meeting this week was one of the best-ever and they will now be building on the momentum before next year's election.
They say there is a huge appetite for change among the public and Fine Gael will be co-ordinating policies with the Labour Party in the coming months in order to present a viable alternative.
