Trevor Sargent can't have it both ways either he stands by his Dail statement that Kenny wouldn't countenance having SF in a coalition with Labour and the Greens post the 2007 election or this never mentioned until the last dying days of an election campaign where the FF/Green coalition are predicted to do badly statement, he can't have it both ways.
Did he mislead the Dail then or is he being economical with the truth now?
SF have been in the news continuously over the last week with people trying to do them down with the same tired old lines. Considering the state of the country due you think people are going to be impressed to see Enda and Garrett fighting over Sinn Fein's mandate.
We have Pat Cocks and Mata harney on TV and Radio saying dont vote SF cause the PDs say so.
We have the drunken sailor of a leader saying dont vote SF because that will cost jobs when he is presiding over a state with 1/5 workers not working.
Keep it up lads because 24 7 news coverage from such a bunch of has beens is a great recommendation to vote Sinn Fein.
There's no contradiction.
Sargent's attitude was "I'm not a Fine Gael messenger-boy - if you want to find out what SF are thinking, go talk to them yourself, or at least send one of your minions'.
Kenny wasn't quite ready to cross that Rubicon so Sargent let fly at him in the Dáil.
It was common knowledge within SF at the time that FG wanted to do a deal to get SF votes for Kenny as Taoiseach
The problem at the time was that FG weren't prepared to countenance a SF minister but wanted external support for a FG lead Government and as a quid quo pro they were willing to implement certain policy matters that were important to SF
SF refused on the basis that if they were supporting the Government, they wanted to be in the Government
