    Sadly, completely unsurprising.

A suspicious person might think so. Avril Doyle's quote is absolute gobbledeguck.

I'm not sure why FG in particular would object to the idea - their attendance records are pretty fair - unlike Mary-Lou:

    O'Neachtain, Seán (Fianna Fáil) 275 out of 290 = 94.83%
Aylward, Liam (Fianna Fáil) 268 out of 290 = 92.41%
Ryan, Eoin (Fianna Fáil) 243 out of 290 = 83.79%
Crowley, Brian (Fianna Fáil) 275 out of 290 = 94.83%

Higgins, Jim (Fine Gael) 253 out of 290 = 87.24%
Burke, Colm (Fine Gael) 99 out of 115 = 86.09%
Coveney, Simon (Fine Gael) 138 out of 173 = 79.77%
Doyle, Avril (Fine Gael) 256 out of 290 = 88.28%
Mcguinness, Mairead (Fine Gael) 248 out of 290 = 85.52%
Mitchell, Gay (Fine Gael) 257 out of 290 = 88.62%

    Harkin, Marian (Independent) 254 out of 290 = 87.59%
    Sinnott, Kathy (Independent) 271 out of 290 = 93.45%

De Rossa, Proinsias (Labour) 244 out of 290 = 84.14%

Mcdonald, Mary Lou (Sinn Fein) 165 out of 290 = 56.90%
Never let the best be the enemy of the good.

Maybe it was other aspects of the report that they and it would seem the EPP generally were opposed to, and also the duplication involved in publishing two reports (there is another due from Michael Cashman MEP also before the European elections). Some people might consider publishing two reports which contain the same information an example of EU wasting money in other contexts.

You can see some of the context here from the debate contributions on Jan 13th

I can't find too much to object to in his proposal. (I like the reference to using open source document formats!)

Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.
