FG councillor received £98,000 in payments

The Mahon Tribunal has revealed that a former Fine Gael councillor accused of corruption received unexplained payments of £98,000 over a seven-month period.

The inquiry says the money was found in accounts belonging to the late Tom Hand and his daughter, Ann, lodged between November 1992 and June 1993 and cannot be reconciled with any other accounts.

Lobbyist Frank Dunlop has testified that he gave Mr Hand £2,000 to sign a motion to rezone lands at Ballycullen while the owner of the lands, Chris Jones, has said he gave him a further £2,000 in political donations.

if any one ever asks me the difference between FG and FF, i never play the whole "FF are corrupt" card anymore, there is no point, i still think FF have been more corrupt then FG but it only takes one person to tarnish a party name

Of course all parties will have corrupt/errant people in them but it is what they do with them that counts.

Bertie brought Burke back from the dead, reeking of sulphur

and imposed him as a choice over David Andrews when there was little need.
