FF call on Ciaran Cannon to resign from Seanad

MCGRATH CALLS ON CANNON TO DO HONORABLE THING AND RESIGN FROM SEANAD | Fianna Fáil

Pointing to the fact that Senator Cannon was only appointed to Seanad Éireann by the then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern on the basis he would support the Government as a member of the PDs/ coalition, Deputy McGrath believes there is no justification for Senator Cannon remaining in office.

not really, its standard proceedure, esp when the person is a nominated or seconded member....

FG or Lab would do the exact same in the same circumstances

100% agree Toxic and how about Harney resigns as a member of a party and coalition partner that no longer exists.

    Pot, Kettle come to mind.

That doesn't really make sense corelli. What does the demise of her party have to do with her support for the government and how does that relate in any way to the Cannon situation?

As for Harris, he was nominated as an independent. Cannon was not. Of course he isn't going to resign and of course FF know this but FF were always going to complain about the fact that a person who was nominated to the Seanad to support the government has gone over to the opposition. Don't pretend that FG wouldn't be saying the same thing if the roles were reversed.

It's a double standard. Ahern nominated Harris as a pure, hack, thank you for defending him on the Late Late and in print. Quite obvious. Ahern is now gone but no sign of FF asking Harris to leave. See?

As for Harney, her party position has now changed, as has Cannons, as to when she was appointed but no sign of FF asking her to go. Admittedly she still supports the Government but it is still a double standard somewhat.

Still isn't really comparable at all. Harris was appointed by Ahern to be an independent senator. Harris has not changed his role in the Seanad, Cannon most certainly has.

Nope not really. I'm sure she might be removed from the Ministry if she joined FG and ceased to support the government but her position as an elected member of the house and government minister has not changed through the demise of her party.

Mmmmmmmm I still like my version!! It makes me happy!

In any event, all the above named are equally as useless as one another and you CAN'T argue with that!
