Former Louth Labour vice-chairperson Benedicta Attoh to run for FG in local elections

Benedicta, former vice-chairperson of the Labour party in Louth has announced that she will contest the local elections for Fine Gael.

"I resigned for the Labout party as the party does not have strong base in Dundalk. Fine Gael is a changeing party and is receptive to the people in the new community. It is a party that is emracing change and blending its traditional core support with people who are new to Irish society", says Ms Attoh.

Benedicta Attoh is currently a Director of the Africa Centre and a member of the Louth African Women’s Support Group. She is the Dundalk branch Coordinator of the Integration of African Children (IACI) in Ireland, a multicultural youth club. She was an Advisory Board member of the NCCRI Synergy North/South Intercultural Initiative from early 2005 until her appointment as Development and Awareness Officer in June 2006.

Benedicta holds a degree in Business Education obtained from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Nigeria and an MSc in Future Communications obtained from the Dundalk Institute of Technology in Ireland.

[Note: this is reported in the latest issue of the Dundalk Democrat. It is not online yet but a link will be posted when it is available]

So she's left Labour in order to join a party she thinks has a better chance of delivering her a council seat. She certainly has integrated well into Irish politics. ;-)

When she told me this in 2008 I thought she was running as an independent, I never knew she was a member of the labour party, must admit I am amazed that someone from the new communities background would want to run fro Fine Gael.

Translation: I have no political principles whatsoever and will run for any organisation that will assist my ambitions.

She's a card-carrying insider in the multi-culti industry. I have some questions, however.
When did she first come to Ireland and under what circumstances?
Is she the same 'Bennie Attoh' responsible for these interesting opinions?

Why has she gone from being an Independent to a Labour member to Fine Gael in such a short period of time?

The Sunday Tribune ran a profile on Benedicta Attoh a few years ago and it provides a clue as to what brought her to Fine Gael.

Fine Gael have 3 Nigerian born candidates running already - one in Mayo, one in Donegal and one in Dublin. They also have a Lithuanian lady & a Polish guy running in Dublin - why is this so odd?

How long B4 the SODS run a spoiler against her to split the Ethnic vote?

Must say her move seems rather cynical.

Though I think FG would be more of a natural home for many of the Immigrants here than Labour

    - I think Labour are seen as a bunch of wallys who swallow any spoof story they are told on immigration.
