We should also note FG supported many unpopular decisions that went into rectifying our economy when CJ didn't have a majority.

So don't be cynical and claim it was all FF, FF just stopped ************************************g up and only when they were forced to, thats not the same as creating the celtic tiger.

i NOTICE CJ only took action when the PDs (fiscal conservatives) burst onto the scene as the third largest party and robbed him of a majority.
Like I said in an earlier post, if the opposition is an actual threat to a government then they are forced to do there jobs right.

Excellect post - so what you say is that a FF government don't base their performance on their duty to the mandate given to them by the people. Or their love of the nation. They base their job performance on the threat to their position. Therefore FF are more concerned with self preservation rather than public service - and you my good friend a member of Ogra!!! Quality!!

I said a government, a being the indefinate article, love of the nation can keep people going for so long, a constant stream of kicks up the arse is needed to keep a government on their toes. Fianna Fáil concern with self preservation is to the benefit of the nation, the worst possable outcome for Ireland would be for the current opposition to gain power, all they do is complain about Fianna Fáil.

FF desire for self-preservation is good for the country??? My its ironic you mention the indefinate article - because thats indeed what you are.

Ironic also in the context of this debate.

I'll refer you to FF 1977 election manifesto- a fabrication - offering the Sun moon & Stars - which eventually lead to Haugheys belt tightening speech - which led to him not living up to it.

FF - lying to the electorate - jepordising the banjaxed economy for power -self actualistion & preservation - good for the country??????

You know, they were in power in the late 90s and didn't "wreck the economy", the sky didn't fall.
