Kenny pushes for halt to ministerial pensions

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny wants ministerial pensions to be halted for sitting TDs -- but won't give up his own payment unless the Government adopts the proposal.

So is he hoping that there will be a halt to ministerial pensions or is he trying to gain a few votes by making the suggestion and hoping that every other minister/TD will laugh at the idea

i think he's looking for a few votes but it is quite clever

he's creating his own agenda on the opposition side

There is a thread on this already. Its part of a widespread Oireachtas reform policy proposed by FG.

I think there is merit in Kenny saying that he is prepared to give up his Ministerial pension if others do the same (which is what he is calling for in this case).

As for the suggestion that Kenny secretly hopes this won't be adopted. He has stated that he will put this measure forward as part of an FG led government if it is not adopted at this time.
