It appears quite telling that this is a pretty polarised discussion...
On one hand you have the Fine Fail guys who want him out as he does not come across well on tv - but then even they have to admit that
FG have gained ground on
FF DESPITE the fake boom. They quickly point to
FG's relative stagnancy of late in the polls as justification, despite the fact that
FG are the only ones proposing tough measures (called telling the truth, the last I checked). Labour on the other hand appear to be going for more populist policies such as leave the public sector alone stuff, and are more willing to allow
FF into govt (making them a better selection for public servants and
FF sympathisers who don't like the current front bench maybe).
On the other hand you have people who speak from within
FG and say that he is actually a very good manager, although they acknowledge that he isn't great on telly. Personally I'd rather a guy who IS good at his job than a guy who is good at pretending to be good at his job - but then thats just me being a "read the full article, not just the headlines" kind of guy...
In reality though, even the lowest of IQ's must ask the obvious question, why would anyone WANT a stronger opponent unless they were bluffing and are actually very scared of the guy. It also poses a much more serious question of this country - if, despite whats happened over the past ten years, the electorate is still more interested in image than ability, are we actually just unfortunate members of a really, really dumb country??
