Bernard Allen in the Dáil Today

The Ceann Comhairle is trying to kick Bernard Allen out of the Dáil for supposed disorder. He's refusing to leave, and FG are backing him. (In fairness, O'Hanlon was a bit over the top).

He's formally been asked twice by the Captain to leave.

Kenny is now berating the Ceann Comhairle about it.

    Can be watched live here.

The CC just walked out and business has been suspended for 5 minutes I think. No sign of anyone leaving from the Fine Gael benches.

In the end he left, and Kathleen Lynch (Labour) then got kicked out for trying to defend him & raise the same issue.

Even a few of the Fianna Fáil back-benchers from Cork got up to defend him.

He was trying to raise the issue of cancer services in Munster.

Don't have a clue what happened, but Allen always struck me as a decent and honest bloke. He's not a Dail poser like that pathetic Bernard Durkan.

wheres the FG bloke from Tralee to accuse Allen of being brought up with animals, thats what I want to know.

Otherwise, fair dues to him for standing his ground. What I would liek someday however, is the whole opposition picking an issue of unfairness by the CC, and the whole bloody lot of them walking out, and refusing to go back in, leaving the government lads on their own. Only then will the publics mind be focused on what an ignoramus O' Hanlon can be, something I witnessed on my own doorstep in 2000. (I witnessed even greater ingronance from his runt in 2001 btw, a nicer person to lose his seat last year, i couldn;'t have met)

But I think Rock touches on a deeper issue there as well. The Ceann Comhairle is extremely protective of the Fianna Fáil front bench and especially Bertie. From my experience in Leinster House he seems to have a special hatred for Rabbitte who can be a right smart aleck and Caoimhghín with whom he has the joyous task of sharing a constituency. But he's short with any Opposition speaker who seems to have this quaint notion that the Opposition should hold the Government to account.

I have no experience of other Ceann Comhairles to compare him too but the general consensus of the political corresondents lobby in the Dáil was that he was openly and blatantly favouring the Government.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Billy "Greaseball" Kelleher share a constituency with Bernard Allen?

Curious how he wasn't going to let Allen get all the glory on the issue - and with him being FF's Deputy Whip and all!

Pity Dan Boyle was so dignified in his withdrawal from the Chamber. He could at least have made reference to the fact that the CC is the biological father of Father Dougal Maguire!

Is he really? I've heard that before but nobody seems to know the truth.
