Did Fine Gael support Anglo-Irish Bail out?

I virulently oppose the bail out of Anglo-Irish. I come from a banking family but this is a step too far. The States exposure is too large and we are simply shoving the bad debts issue under the carpet. I would not believe in a domino effect in the banking sector and Anglo has no importance to the Irish public. Did FG support this fiasco? E Mailed Dicky Bruton at the weekend but no reply yet.

I course they supported it. You obviously don't know what FG stand for if you're asking that.

I have posted on this before.
Richard opposed it when it before it happened and after it happened.

Saturday 20th December 2008 Recapitalising Anglo After Fundamental Breach of Trust Not Appropriate or Likely to Help Credit Availability - Bruton

"In light of the further damage to the credibility and reputation of Anglo Irish Bank from the revelations of recent days, one has to question the wisdom of Minister Lenihan's announcement of 'his commitment to underwrite the capital needs of Anglo Irish Bank on appropriate terms and to ensure its long term strength and viability as a bank of systemic importance in Ireland.'
"The only purpose of using scarce tax-payer resources to recapitalise any Irish bank is to restore the availability of credit to Irish households and businesses to underpin economic recovery. Banking is built on trust. Having lost the trust of both the markets, the regulatory system and the wider public, recapitalising Anglo Irish Bank using tax-payer resources is, in Fine Gael's view, neither appropriate nor is likely to have any impact on credit availability.
"Increasingly scarce taxpayer resources should instead be used to recapitalise those systemically important banks that have a viable, independent future in supporting the Irish economy."

Big Bozo - As usual your prejudice gets in the way of the facts - see above.

Thanks Droheda South. Got E mail from Bruton which supports earlier comments. Think Gov might have been better getting Ordinary shares if they were to get involved but Im sure this has been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere.

Fine Gael will get a chance to demonstrate backbone when they try to amend the Pension Reserve Fund legislation to permit the diversion of our pensions into this blackhole.
