Enda Kenny is just beginning his speech to the 2008 Party Conference. The conference, who's theme is "Fairness For All" is being attended by approximately 1200 people.
Enda Kenny criticises the government's failure to plan for the future saying that Fianna Fail has
"governed deliberately in the interests of their friends, particularly property speculators".
During his speech, he also calls for the banks to be recapitalised "now".
The Fine Gael leader is also calling for the National Pay Deal to be suspended for 12 months, saying that Ireland "cannot afford" the pay deal. Kenny also calls for the Government and entire public sector to have a pay freeze. He also calls on the private sector to look at controlling costs rather than losing staff.
Kenny also comments on Alan Duke's plans for Universal Healthcare, which Kenny says Fine Gael will implement once in government. Is it too much to ask that a stale, arrogant, contemptuous Government be swept out of office and urgently replaced by a Fine Gael government of passion, professionalism, experience and enthusiasm? Is it?
On Europe, Kenny says that Fine Gael will put an end to speculation about Ireland's role, saying Ireland's place is at the heart of Europe.
In his speech, Enda Kenny tells the assembled party faithful to expect a general election sooner than people think and says that Fine Gael will be in the next government.
Enda Kenny's speech, in full, is available below the fold. And simply put...The Fine Gael team are going to be the next Government.
