A lot of people wouldn't want Enda Kenny to be Taoiseach unless he becomes a heavyweight media performer. If he is Taoiseach it will be a case of cringing most times he gives a soundbite to the television reporters. I don't like cringing. It is painful. He should stand down after the elections next year.

You must have been in a lot of pain over the last 11 years then because Bertie and Cowen aren't any better then Enda with the media. I don't think Ahern did one serious interview while Taoiseach.

I was, believe me. But Ahern was good when he had to be. His bumbling style was done on purpose to take the wind out of big issues he had to deal with. He was very sly. And I can't stand him.

Would you prefer Pat Kenny or Gerry Ryan as Taoiseach. We don't need soundbites, we need policies which have a chance of turning the economy around, implemented by a team who have a set of consistent policies. Its time we switched from spin & Berties smoke and daggers to policies that work.

We like to feel a connection to a lively Taoiseach though not one who comes across as at best wooden and at worst embarrassing and weak. Most people are never going to meet him, so his personal charisma in person is not that great an asset.

Is that post from an FFer trying to stir things up?

I don't care what Cowen looks like on a poster or whether he's good crack in a pub, I want someone who can lead a government to get us out of the mess we're in.

And other people in FG can give us that and be strong enough a media performer to not make us cringe regularly.

I'm sure there are but there is a leader in place and he will be the choice for Taoiseach after the next election. FG have been there, done that with switching leaders and there's no appetite to go through that cycle again. Charismatic leaders tend to believe their own hype and usually fall short of expectations, we need substance not flash to solve real problems.
