Set date for Lisbon 2: Colm Burke MEP

Colm Burke has called for a date for a vote on Lisbon 2 to be set. Fine Gael say he is expressing a personal view and not that of the party.

Given the Cowen recession, there will be no Lisbon 2. Nothing this government proposes in a referendum could be passed.

True, the surrounding mood music is against the government winning any referendum they push.

He is speaking on Newstalk now. He is proposing in effect 3 referenda with seperate Yes or No's to the Defence part of Lisbon, the COFR and a third on the remainder of the Lisbon Treaty. What a mess!

This is one of the myriad options which Micheal Martin has leaked to the media in recent weeks, so its not exactly a new proposal

Can we wait until the Conservatives get into power across the water and see if they pass it first?

That is the ultimate objective as veto's by small states are not tolerated in the EU. However if a big state says no thats it. These double standards make me anti-eu.

Opt-outs from TCOFR and Common Defence would only be 2 of my red lines (see my thread in the Europe section). So it would be 3 no's from me.
