    FG and Partnership Agreements

I heard Brian Hayes on Pat Kenny yesterday talking about the Partnership agreements among other things (in fairness, he came across well).
Among the things he criticised was the fact that previous agreements had included other issues aside for pay - Pat Kenny pressed him on what he meant by this and he cited aspects of the National Development Plan linked to the previous partnership agreements as an example.
The impression that I got was that he believed that Partnership should be about wages only.

This morning, Enda Kenny was on Morning Ireland and when asked about the new partnership agreement, the first thing that he criticised was that there was no agreement on bus competition in Dublin included.

These two positions strike me as contradictory - I don't really see how FG can demand that the Government include an agreement on bus competition within the partnership process, but give out if other non-wage issues (like commitments in the NDP) are linked.

Try and work out how these three are connected.

    Privatization. Competition. Wages.

There is no contradiction in the idea is that there shouldn't be non-pay related issues but if there are going to be such issues then they should be things that can impact on people's lives.

It's a bit like complaining if someone says you shouldn't eat meat and then if they express an opinion on the way the meat should be cooked they've contradicted themselves. There is no contradiction in that.

Its perfectly straightforward - something like bus competition WOULD be pay-related, as it would constitute a transparent productivity gain, and thus be worthy of a pay rise. Its always been the FG position that if workers give productivity gains, they should be rewarded for it.

Sort of seat of the pants think-in gem Kenny's smartass puppetmasters think passes for strategy: lure a few stray PD councillors by aping some of their pet ideas.
Asked about the use of Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny’s photograph on posters, Mr Varadkar said “Yes, and I think that was wrong. What we did with the poster campaign was cynical and wrong.”
