    FG Euro Candidates

I couldn't find a thread on the Fine Gael Euro elections so here goes-

Who are the likely candidates in each constituency?

    - South: Colm Burke has said he wants to run, Sean Kelly was quoted in the indo on Tuesday as saying he might like to run, Any others? What do people think of these two's chance?
-East: Presumably both Avril Doyle and Mairead McGuiness will run again? What do people think the chances of holding the two seats?
-Connacht/Ulster: Jim Higgins to run again? Rumoured that Michael Ring would like a chance? Any other people with Euro Ambitions?
-Dublin: Have heard Gay Mitchell is fed up with all the travel over and back to Europe will he run again anyway? What about potential running mates?

If there is a thread on this already i apologise but as i said i wasn't able to find one.

Avril Doyle is like the Irish showjumping team always on a high horse.

Colm Burke hasn’t snowballs in hell chance. He only scrapes in to the easiest Ward to get elected to in Cork by the skin of his teeth (and opening a SEX shop in the city while Lord Mayor)
The big fight he will but up however is when FG tries to get him to stand aside for a candidate who would most likely take a seat.

He doesn't have to stand aside FG can run two in South especially when FF have only the one incumbent.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

Very true, but that would be a high risk gamble.
Would FG risk a sure seat to appease a junior spoilt child member of the party? and don't give me any guff about he being "Director of Elections" , the man is a bad joke.

South : There should be one seat for them, but a Burke/Kelly ticket is hardly inspiring.
East : Not sure Doyle is standing again, but if she is, it should make for a fascinating race.
C/U : There's a seat for FG, if Ring stands he'll probably top the poll and it gets him out from under the feet of EK.
Dublin : Mitchell will run and hold the seat. They possibly need a running mate from Noth of the Liffey.

I think FG will struggle to hold 5 seats and may lose one in East, but with Labour struggling to find attractive candidates, they should certainly hold four.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

It's a 3 seater with no certainty around who would get elected other than Crowley. I'd be interested to see if there has been any polling and how people who voted for her view Sinnott now.

Rumour has it that Barry O'Neill who is a cllr in Ballyshannon and a sports reporter for 2fm, is going to run in Connaught/Ulster.

Apparently, this is to boost his profile for the next GE.

Dinny McGinley to step aside when FG can produce a candidate who can retain the seat.

Does anyone know the dates for nominations for the selections or the dates the conventions are to be held?
