I quite agree, that's why they should keep thier intersts in having a good 32 county economy.
Time for FG's to wake up and realise that until the NE is properly a working part of Ireland it will always be a sticking point in Irelands development. And that BTW affects us all.
As the united Ireland party we should in the long term. Also I personally believe that the united Ireland party should organise in all parts of Ireland but that's a different days debate

At this moment in time, FG's plan is to remain south of the border while the peace process is still in order. We will continue to work with ALL nothern parties to ensure that the peace process remains as it is, and devolution continues in the northern political system.
As for all the talk about Fine Gael being Unionists and aligning with the UUP, this is all lies. Fine Gael has been working very closely with all the parties and will continue to do so. We are a nationalist party, and will continue to be so. A 32 county Irish republic is one of Fine Gael's key aims, always has been, always will be.
On an all-island economy, I cannot say the party position, but as we currently have two different economies, we need to focus and saving the southern economy first, then we can work out a possible way of aligning ourselves with the northern economy.

when can you envisage I time that we do set up shop in the 6?I understand the whole thing about the peace process but things have begun to die down and do you reckon that in a few years of continuing stability that such an action could be taken?well we're a lot closer to the sdlp than ff ever were so I would pay attention to the trolls.we all know that we're more likely to merge with sf than any unionist party.the united ireland party wants......a united Ireland trolls....shock horror

As to when it could happen, we may be in a position to consider it after the next set of Assembly elections and the British General Election. However, we are not in government south of the border yet. We need to get into government to be in a real position of actually being able to organise within the six counties.Originally Posted by westkerryblue
We are working with the SDLP on a number of issues and will continue to do so, regardless of what Fianna Fáil wish for. As for Sínn Féin, I know there is another thread here saying should we go in with them come the next election, this is 4 years away, a lot could happen in four years. Making this decision now, is absolutely pointless.

I would have thought the best way to develop in the North would be for FG to merge with an existing party.
Of course a merger with a Unionist party in not a possibility.
Are the Alliance too Unionist to make that a possibility?
If so then perhaps the best option would be to try to recruit independent Nationalist politicians to run under the FG banner if that we re possible.
However I understand that FG have bigger fish to fry between now and then, as was proven with SF at the last GE in the Republic, there are not a great deal of votes for parties who wish to talk about the North almost to the exclusion of nothing else.
The voters of the ROI want to hear how the economy of the ROI can be fixed before they will care about how the economy of Northern Ireland, can be fixed.

FG can nevertrump Fianna Fail in regards to economic management because they'll be lumbered with the Labour tail wagging the FG dog. Neither can they trump FF on the North, because they've no idea how to handle the kneecappers (as Bruton demonstrated). They need to become a left-wing social isssues party after the fashion of the Greens.Originally Posted by sandar
