Last weeks FG front bench meeting

As I have heard it,a proposal was made to put down a motion of no confidence in Bert, it was strongly supported by Enda and a numbber of the younger spokespeople. But C flanagan.,A shatter and a number of others spoke against such a move as it was a publlic turnoff ,a vote was taken and Enda was defeated. It was agreed that the details of the meeting would not be spoken about so not to embaress the leader.
At the same time labour have sent out the message to Enda that if he must reign in his younger more right wing spokespeople so not to burn any bridges. My source tells me thah he cant do this as they are now his main support within the party
Surly the wiseheads within FG can sort this out before warfare erupts within the PP

Firstly its helpful to have a context. What motion of no confidence?! And in the title would be helpful to have FG in it.
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

Well, I'd have agreed it wasn't the right time for a motion, the time for that was after Ahern's next tribunal speech. The need to time these things properly is critical.

I am no fan of Kenny, but the above is indicative of how people need to look at facts. Labour have remained stagnant under 3 very able parliamentarians and decent men to boot while Kenny has grabbed FG by the bootstraps and got them to near 30% in the polls. Labour have consistently failed to get the vote since Spring did the deal with FF, the people never forgave them. FG should keep going in the direction they are heading and if anything Lab will have to become more main stream to attract votes.

I agree but a leader must have the full backing of his front bench. he can not afford to have everything second guessed
The labour viewpiont is interesting Leo"s attack on the labout party as one in terminal decline really pissed of a number of serious labour heads espc as there was no dressing down. from Kenny. A split between the 2 parties wll mean 5 more years for a FF lead govt.

I guess we'll just take your word for all these revelations?

In principle, neither politicans nor officals should accept personal gifts of value from outside their family" - Bertie Ahern, 1996
