How will Enda perform against Brian?

It will be interesting to see how things pan out over the coming weeks. Will it be a case of the gruff with the smooth and the smooth will win out at the end????????????

I think we are all looking forward to this contest. I would expect Cowen to adopt a more reserved and less aggressive manner, one the befits the office of Taoiseach.

I am no Fianna Fail supporter, but Brian might be a bit rough around the edges but he is far more competent that that gurrier (Ahern) referring to the mahon tribunal as low lifes.

We'll see if el Biffo actually gets a chance to do the one thing he's never done before: make a decision!

Judging by past performances it appears to be very easy to get under Cowan's skin and bring out the snarling, gruff and arrogant side of his personality, he'll need to control that if he's to appeal to voters outside of FF's hardcore base..
    Average expenses per TD in 2011:- FG €36,412, Lab €28,756, FF €45,219, SF €44,413, SP €23,654, PBP €31,866, WUAG €49,911, IND €37,805, CC €13,112.

If Kenny plays his cards right he could score some big points here. Points he could never score over Ahern.

The strategy for FG in selecting Enda (ok FG strategy is an oxymoron) was to "out Bertie, Bertie", they failed. As their candidate in Dublin NE Brody sweeny said in an interview recently "FF did a great during the election of making Enda look stupid". Get the tape of Enda's primetime interview when he went for the leadership against Noonan and you'll see what a lightweight he is. Enda will be blown away being Cowen in no time. In fact he has alread humbled him on several occasions and its only going to get worse for him.

Well we might get a straight answer out of Cowen which will be refreshing. That said it depends on whether Cowen sticks to his more aggressive debating style or will he be more restrained. Should be intresting.

If Enda was ineffective against Bertie I can only see him being even more so against Cowen.

Cowen is a powerful operator who knows how to debate at a level above nearly all of our other TD's.

Based on what I've seen so far, in a one on one debate, such as the pre-election leaders debate, Cowen would make Enda look like a complete and utter amateur.

A talking head on Today FM earlier in the week quoted Pat Rabitte as saying that debating Bertie was like playing handball against a hay stack, no matter what you threw nothing ever came back - I think debating against Cowen will be a different matter altogether, and recent history has shown people don't like the arrogant smart alec routine.
