Brian Cowen is going to wipe the floor with Enda Kenny

    ... and Eamon Gilmore.

If Fine Gael don't replace FF as the largest party at council level in the next local elections then Enda Kenny should go.

He should really go now though in my opinion.

Electorally he has been very good for us. We won 20 seats in the GE, only a handful of seats separate us from FF at council level and we have one more MEP than they do.

However, although he comes across well on the radio in my view he does not come across well on television and in live debates in the Dáil.

Being good at giving short media soundbites to the news and being good at delivering the party's message and policies in the media is an essential attribute of any would-be Taoiseach. Enda fails here and he should go sooner rather than later.

I've never met the man and I understand that he commands a lot of respect in the party (particularly in the Parliamentary Party) because he is honest and is a good worker. However he doesn't come across well on television most of the time and in the age we live in it is essential that party leaders do.

Do the honourable thing Enda. Either stand down or come out and say that you will resign if the party don't overtake FF as the largest party at council level in 2009.

    Darren, don't be an idiot.

Eh, I'm looking at the bigger picture. FG may hold our seats at the next GE with Kenny as leader but we won't ever get into Government with him.

It's called pragmatism. I don't have a problem with him personally. He's not up the job. Simple as that.

But you've produced absolutely nothing to support your contention.

I don't think Cowen will be as popular a leader as Bertie. I think this is good news for Enda, though we can't underestimate FG's addiction to losing elections. It is conceivable that even Cowen might beat him, but he would certainly be an easier opponent for FG to beat than Bertie. Cowen's judgement is debatable on the stamp-duty issue.

If we've learned anything it's that knee jerk reactions to leaders aren;t good. Enda has brought us to our highest rating in the polls in years. An election tomorrow morning and we would be singing.
