Whistleblower Deasy busts alleged planning ring

Conscience of the Fine Gael party John Deasy has blown the whistle on planning matters in Waterford, which has led Gardai to interview county councillors and senior officials with Waterford County Council. The investigation has led to gardaí interviewing most of the two dozen county councillors, and up to six council officials,  in their homes in the past few days. The remaining interviews are expected to take place today. For how much longer can Deasy's claim to a front bench portfolio be denied?

Gardaí say the matters relate to the potential rezoning of up to 300 acres of land in the Dungarvan area. Last month, Waterford County Council proposed to amend its County Development Plan and rezone up to 300 acres of land near Dungarvan from agricultural to economic use as a way to help develop industry.

These current Garda inquiries do not relate to other previous investigations into planning matters in Co Waterford. John Deasy said that last summer a man contacted him about planning allegations. Deasy then contacted the gardaí, who started looking into the matter. Nobody has been arrested and there are no allegations against any of the officials or sitting councillors. Submissions on the proposal can be made up to next Thursday. It will probably be another few months before a decision is made on whether the land will be rezoned.
Make Deasy FG Environment spokesman: put Gormley and the Greens to the sword.

The gardaí should be sent in to investigate every CO Council in the country.Gombenism is still alive and well all over Ireland.
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

Go Deasy, he was the only one to have the guts to spark up in the Dail bar after the ridiculous "smoking Ban" nonsense. Passive smoking=Junk Science.

Come to where the flavor is........... Come to Marlboro Country.

Where did you get that story from Apparatchik? If it is true well done to Deasy. It's good to see a bit of integrity in politics and maybe Deasy is gaining a bit of sense, after acting like a tool in the past.
