    Liam Burke (R.I.P.)

    The former T.D. for Cork North Central passed away earlier today.
    May He Rest in Peace.

    Known to most of us in FG simply as "Burkey".

    Will be remembered I suppose chiefly for the 1979 double-whammy by-election win with Myra Barry which toppled Jack Lynch from power. Also I know one of the his own proudest achievements was being Lord Mayor of Cork for the first half of the Cork 800 celebrations in 1985.

    Hell of a campaigner and was very proud of the northside of Cork City. An ex-milkman with more jewellery on him canvassing than Ron Atkinson, only Burkey could carry that off.
