    Charlie Flanagan to Run?

I note on another discussion that Charlie Flanagan was at the FG stand at Tullamore Show last Sunday. Is this a straw in the wind. Portlaoise certainly needs strong national representation.

Any indications that Alan Shatter, Nora Owen , Alan Dukes are lining up?

Indeed, Portlaoise needs strong representation, so hopefully Willie Airde gets on the FG ticket.

Flanagan is best placed to take the second FG seat with his Portlaoise base. Flanagan with 6500 first perferences and .62 of a quota last time out wasn't far out especially with that mountain of second perferences.

Not only that but he's serious Minister material.

It will be a McHugh, Flanagan 1, 2 for FG next time out for Laois-Offaly.

Alan Dukes still seems unlikely to run unless a lot of pressure is applied from HQ. He's pretty happy doing what he does now.

I would like to ask a serious question to the YFG heads on here. Given that you all point to your successful local election campaign, and your bulging base of potential Dáil candidates, why are you resorting to running people who lost out at the last election? People like Owen, Flanagan and Dukes are reminiscent of the failure in 2002. Why should the people be reminded of it again?

Owen ain't running, and I'd be astonished if Dukes ran. Dunno about Flanagan.

Olwyn intends to continue to use the Enright name. Anything that keeps you up the ballot paper is good.

What about Alan Shatter? Is he going to make a Dail comeback?

Word is he hasn't decided yet thats the truth, hes been at a fair few Fine Gael meetings but no decisions, you gotta ask if he really wants to run like Dukes he has some pretty important & successfull private interests. Also if he ran would he run again next time out? Would he win?
