I want to live at the top of Muff Avenue, and Fine Gael will help me to do it

Fine Gael wants to let you change your street

Fine Gael will allow residents to change the name of their street or estate if a “simple majority” of registered voters on the street agree to do so.

The party’s local election manifesto says the “naming of estates and roads has become an issue for many homeowners in recent years” and has proposals about how changes can be made.

“In the spirit of devolution, the Minister for Environment will introduce new regulations as part of ongoing local government reforms to make it easier for residents to change the name of a street or locality by a simple majority of the registered electors,” it says.
It's unclear if a 'simple majority' is a numerical majority, a majority of the simple people, or if it has some other meaning, but it seems that FG will allow a majority of residents to rename their street, should they so wish.

    What think, ye all?

Anyone fancy living on Sh1t Creek?

Sounds like something you'd do while in solitary confinement. Appropriate for some of the one-bed shoe boxes, I suppose.

    What's all this about?

the “naming of estates and roads has become an issue for many homeowners in recent years” and has proposals about how changes can be made.
First I've heard about this issue. Does the manifesto cite examples of why some people want to change their street name?

Because maybe the reasons WHY they want them changed should be addressed.

Do some people want to change their street names because they have earned a poor reputation due to proliferation of scum living there?

Fine Gael's policy department must have been working overtime to come up with this latest white elephant.
