I'd disagree with one of those in that I think that Brody Sweeney was the one that hoovered up the PD support in DNE, but there isn't going to be much gap left by Flangan next time out unless DNC and DNE merge and even then they won't break 5% and any transfer will come back to FG.

Not sure I'd agree, KingKane - there was never anything much in terms of PD support in DNE - no PD candidate for either Local or General elections ever got more than a couple of percent in the last 15 years, if I recall rightly.

I had a look back and they did peak at about 7/8% in 1997, it has drifted down since those heights though. It might not seem like much but to the PDs these days (and myself I guess) it is a veritable landslide.

I think the Irish psyche has a hang up with authority figures including Doctors.
Leo is nothing special, his comments denigrating Leitrim when he was a councillor have not been forgotten. Personally I think Kieran O'Donnell is a future leader of FG. Should I start a new thread?

In the context of criticism of Leitrim County Council, and ending the business of discussing an error on their behalf, "Leitrim doesn't even exist, anyway."

The deputy denies the reports that he said Leitrim was a "nothing but a social welfare scam", as reported in the Sunday Independent. However he has point-blank refused to apologise for the confirmed remark, despite admitting it was in jest.

Ah, you know what I mean. An arguably fascist organisation was set up, which was led by CnaG representatives, supported CnaG and protected their meetings. That organisation, along with CnaG later became FG. Come on, you know exactly what I mean, and what he means. FG's tendencies from seventy years ago are of little relevance, so there's no need to play dumb.
