What wishy-washy response - the ULA and its component organisations condemned Wallace's tax dodging activities and are the only group to demand he repay every penny he owes. The tax dodging billionaire-owned media and the establishment parties all whined about him resigning (despite the fact that the media didn't elect him - the people of Wexford did) - all in an attempt to get another body for government back-bench cannon fodder. None of the establishment politicians dared to support the call from the ULA to change company law to stop Wallace keeping assets instead of paying his tax debt - far more important to protect the rules of capital. The other interesting point is that when Wallace decided to take a swipe at those criticising him who did he attack - the media or the right-wing hacks calling on him to resign - no - he attacked the Socialist Party because they were demanding he actually pay what he owes.
Indeed i remember Joe Higgins saying it was up to the people however I don't remember Joe saying the same when it was an FF/FG Deputy in the spotlight, he was usually foaming at the mouth screaming for them to resign. They also didn't condemn Wallace until the faced severe criticism before that there was silence for sometime. It seems hypocrisy and double standards are every bit alive and well within the ULA as they are with FF/FG/LAB.

No he did not - The only occasion when Joe Higgins ever called on a TD to resign was when Liam Lawlor spent months contriving to prevent a Dail committe investigating his corruption. The Socialist Party has consistently held the position that elected public representative should not have to resign their seats unless those who elected them demand their removal. That is why the Socialist Party call for the right of recall by the electorate of all elected public representatives.

Again bullsh*t - The day after Wallace made public his tax dodging activities Joe Higgins went on the national airwaves, condemned his actions and called on every penny to be paid. The media (in the guise of the Indo) manufactured a controversy out of it two days later after the right-wing hacks demanded his resignation when it clicked with them that the Socialist Party did not call on him to resign.

After the filthy state FF left Irish politics in, how can practically any other party go wrong?
