    The branch is the basic unit in FG's organisation. I joined a party because I wanted to change the govt., not out of friendship/loyalty to an individual candidate. My experience has been that personal loyalty is the motivation for a large number of members. I don't have a problem with that but when the individual candidate is not involved, neither are many of their supporters. Regarding local representation, I think that is what the council is for, TDs should be more focussed on national issues but I concede that is a minority opinion

    I don't disagree with the last point. I thought John Rogers proposal on National Vocational Constituencies was very interesting - seems to have fallen off the radar though.
