Peter Mathews the most impressive backbencher?

Since he made his first appearance on VB, I have always been impressed with the chartered account. He certainly has an excellent understanding of what really needs to be done to extricate us out of the current economic mess that we find ourselves in. In addition, whenever he appears on current affairs programmes, he always gives a very concise and clear definition of the economic picture for 'dopes' like me. I do believe if Enda removed the shackles he'd-Peter- be jumping up and down for a reduction in our debt burden and seek a greater timeframe to pay back the remaining principal . Hopefully, we will hear more from the former PD in 2012.

Absolute cabinet material. Would like him to replace Michael Noonan if he can't do an honest deal for Ireland regarding the unsecured bondholders.

Cannot see him ever getting promoted inside FG. He knows too much. He could go into the Dept OF Finance and wipe the floors with them. Ditto for European meetings. What a waste. Its truly shocking that among our TD's we have a person of his intellect and knowledge and he is being ignored.....

But sure we have Ming and Richard Richboy'd Barrett to make up for it....

I many respects I agree with you. He strongly advocates what must be done, what needs to happen. Here we have someone ready to play hardball with the EU/ECB concerning the debt situation. But instead, FG muzzle him up, and negotiate zilch with the EU/ECB. In contrast, they are far happier to take on the OAPs. Feel proud Enda...

Well as a Fianna Failer, I'd suggest, hang on, allow me to dream. That Mehole would do the unthinkable and appoint him to a cabinet position, IF (big IF) FF were ever fortunate to get near ruining, sorry mean't running the country again. All jokes aside, it would certainly break the mould in Irish politics- not that it might happen. With serious concerns about our deficit we do need to put out our best fifteen

I know, I do think its time for a national government, best minds, radical proposals but fat chance of happening

I read once that they laugh at him as in "here he comes again with his big ideas." They will never listen to a word he says and only used him to win a seat. The guy is wasting his time just like George Lee. They do not want talented people, they just want party people who will do what they are told.

You're assuming that Kenny & Gilmore & their parties want to get an honest deal for Ireland.

How do you know that's not already happening? Something doesn't only become true when its announced on Vincent Browne, you know.
