FG Executive to consider Cllr Scully position

According to todays Irish Times the position of Cllr Darren Scully is to be discussed tonight at that partys National Executive. Wonder what the outcome will be?

Anything short of expulsion makes Kenny look weak and FG open to more charges of racism.

The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

I can't even believe how stupidly they've dealt with the whole situation up until now.

Surely for some events of national significance they could have brought forward a meeting of the Exec and the Disciplinary Committee to discuss this issue and come to a conclusion in one way or another?

Also; to any fool who has ever seen an episode of the West Wing even, have they ever heard of the term 'news cycle'? This story was all over the news when it happened, and certainly didn't paint the party at large in a good light. Since then it's gone away, and I imagine been largely forgotten about by the majority of Irish people.

When it's revisited by FG, and they eventually take action (one way or another) it becomes a national news item again no doubt!

Leave the man alone, there is no need to mount a witch hunt on someone who just couldn't take any more abuse.

Surely he'd have conferred with the members of the National Exec by now and will broadly know what to expect. *If* that's the case then he would have resigned rather than face expulsion. There would be no benefit to him in forcing them to actually expel him other than if he wished to become a poster-boy for racism. I doubt that he wants that.

My money would be on a severe reprimand and the publication of a grovelling apology.

    A witch hunt?!

He started this whole incident. He didn't simply mis-speak in the heat of the moment or anything like that; he clearly formulated this absolutely untenable position himself and articulated it on numerous occasions. He emailed it to the radio station before coming on to speak about it.

His behaviour and his comments were disgraceful, and FG should rightfully have distanced themselves from him by now.

I understand he's probably going through a hard time because of the fall out from what he said; but sometimes that is inevitable when you say absolutely stupid and racist things like he did. I'm not going to feel sorry for him because of it.

Never underestimate FG's ability to screw up simple PR.

Scully should have resigned from the Party. HQ should have accepted it and closed off the issue within a day.

That it has taken this long just makes FG look ridiculous and gives oxygen to bleeding hearts and right wingers alike..

Expulsion more than likely or atleast party suspension.

I see rosanna flynn and her associated nutters were wading in with an indignant letter to the Taoiseach, and they had an obliging Shinner to act as messenger boy.
