Cllr. Scully suspended by his employer

    Is this a bit harsh?

"Darren Scully, who resigned as mayor of Naas in Co Kildare last week over the controversy, said his livelihood is now in jeopardy and he won't find out until later this week whether he will still have a job. The councillor, who is married with two small children, works as a structural engineer for a private company which he declined to name. Mr Scully yesterday confirmed his suspension to the Sunday Independent."

Scully should be expelled by FG (every day that passes just serves to demonstrate FG's inability to do the right thing) but being suspended from his job is going too far unless what he has said/done has impacted the business of the company.

The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

An employer can't discipline someone for their political opinions surely. Odious though they may be.

I understand he faces possible expulsion from FG at a meeting in December.
