His wife & kids should suffer in the same way as any other wife & kids who are dependent on a husband's earnings (assuming that is the case) suffer if he loses his job. They are completely irrelevant. They do not have a contract with the employer. If their husband/father is such a buffoon to come out and say what he said in public then, yes, I guess they might suffer.

The employer might be worried about publicity & revenge attacks and is at least being seen to do something. I very much doubt he will lose his job unless his contract is not on standard terms. It would be a brave employer who would fire him for that. Would be inviting a claim from him IMO

On top of that I hope that the ridiculous reporting of his comments to the Gardai goes no further.
I also hope he does not lose his job on the basis of the "facts" know of so far.
The reporting to the Gardai concerns me more at this stage when the entire country is relying on our politicians to dig us out of the sh*t and give us the leadership we all crave. What do we get instead? Diversion tactics which home in on soft populist issues to take the focus off incompetent public reps and at the same time give themselves a profile with the public. Hitler used the Jews. Nero used the Christians. The examples may be ott but the principle is the same

    Not Simple

Mr Scully has not displayed any judgement throughout this sorry mess. He has been reported to the Gardai and a prosecution may result. He will certainly be expelled from FG, in particular since that suits his party colleagues. His employer has suspended him, on full pay one assumes, following this self inflicted mess.
If he has occasion to work with “Black Africans” then there is an immediate issue. Otherwise I suspect that the Garda investigation will be key to his future. All employers are legally barred from discriminating and if he is in a senior position then that becomes an issue in regard to other present or future employees.
I hope he does not lose his job but that will be a less emphatic view if he is convicted under the relevant law which as a public representative he was doubly obliged to be aware of and obey.

The fair way out for everyone.

Cllr. Scully is expelled from FG for a period of one year.
Cllr. Scully recieves a caution from the Gardai.
Cllr. Scully is reprimanded by his employers via a short period of unpaid suspension and retains his job.

If Cllr. Scully wishes to remain in politics he should then keep his head down and work as hard as possible for all of his constituents.
