So does this mean that if you are not 'Politically Correct' outside of the workplace - that is now grounds for dismissal??

I don't at all agree with what he said, and he does deserve to be expelled from Fine Gael for his remarks, but depriving him of his livelihood is going too far.

I would imagine some people in Ireland - maybe even some blackafricans - might experience schadenfreude at seeing Mr Scully aggressively applying for a medical card and other benefits of our social welfare system should he find himself unemployed.

What about publicly expressed racist opinions?

I do not think that impacts on his judgement on the size of steel bars to go into foundations! Now if he were the CEO of the company then it could be argued that it would impact on the company's image but otherwise I am not getting this. If Cllr Scully were a civil servant he could not have been suspended never mind sacked!

The employer is looking at the negative impact on his company of employing a racist , hopefully fine gael will do the same .

A perfect example of why personal opinions should remain personal.

Exactly and don't think Scully doesn't know that, thick and all he is.

If he had given an immigrant a job over a white person, you would be baying for blood and F his wife and kids. Truth comes out differently from a mouth with bias.
