Should the term Blue Shirt be outlawed?

It's not something I use on P.ie, I think it's very strong and refers to a period in history best to be forgotten. Obviously, it is still used widely by the public to label Fine Gael supporters. However, is it time it was outlawed or is it simply 'a term of endearment'?

It does not bother me one way or the other, the roots are in the distant past.

The ACA or what they became were one of the groups that became FG so as long as its not being used as a direct nazi type slur i am ok with it.

What's the history behind it...? (for the benefit of the thread anyway!)

I don't see it as derogatory - it's in the same class as FFer, Shinnerbot, ABFF and so on as far as I'm concerned.
Ah never mind the Shinners, good old Fine Failure is the REAL RapethePublic 'an Party...

As a term of contempt for ex-Shinners with a xenophobic party name it's a superb label. That said I'd like to see them try and outlaw it just for the hilarity that would ensue.

it's just a reminder of times past and a clue to why they still think as most of them do today.

    No harm in it really.
