    ASB Meetings and Attendence

There was an article by Michael Clifford in the Tribune on Sunday about an ASB meeting in Clonmel which barely broke into double figures. The full page article seemed to indicate that the reaction on the ground to the 100 meetings wasn't up to much.

We had a meeting in Athy last night, where we booked an 80 seater room and it was standing room only. Just wondering whether people's experience has been like Tipp or top like ours.

There was a meeting in Finglas with about 25 people at it. Eight of them were Sinn Féin members.

At our meeting there was between 75-100 people at it. Roughly 60% were FG people who would turn up anyway, but this figure included a few who had fallen by the wayside in recent years. The local org. were pleased, it showed that the local FG people were mobilises, and it attracted a few interested people on top of that. Feedback from these floating voters after was positive aswell.

The meetings across Dublin were quite successfull with most constituencies holding 2. The average attendance in the Capital has been 60 with the largest being in Dun Laoghaire about 100 maybe + a few. The most encouraging thing is that a large number of prople attending our from the area but that aren't members of Fine Gael, which in my opinion can only be a good thing

The conference in CityWest had a few hundred at it but that was just for members.

I was at the one in Monkstown (probably the DL one). There were over 100 there. Three problems though:
    1) It came across as amateurish as the microphone wasn't working.
    2) The only people under 25 there (who I could see) were myself and some guy whos in YFG.
    3) Most people kept bringing it back somehow to a debate on the proposed pier development.

I'm still glad I went, was fairly interesting and I got to meet two of my ex-teachers. One's a councillor for FG, Donal Marren

I don't know how you'd get that figure. Most people had some form of objection (even a minor one) to the plans, so I doubt they were party faithful.

Does "diss" mean "disappointed"? If it does, there's only one "s" :P

Our meeting had a pretty good age profile from students through to retirees. This helped to give a really good range of opinion.

I'm glad to hear that the rest of the country seems to have been getting as good a response as us. It's a shame the Tribune managed to cover a particularly low turnout.
