well I wouldn't give her health so you would have to buy her off with a decent ministry and give a junior ministry to the other PD

Not a bad cabinet in fairness. Lots of talent.

If we could use the Transport ministry to improve competition in the bus market without the Labour party sticking its big nose in on behalf of the unions even I might consider this an option - albeit with some scepticism. Pfkf1, do you seriously believe that Labour, having prevented the PDs from entering the first Rainbow, would now agree to the PDs entering one? I'd like to be a fly on the wall in a Cabinet containing Harney and Gormley....

I believe the aim of the PDs in politics should be to get our policies implemented - not to be an appendage to either FF or FG. So I am not opposed in principle to Coalition with FG. It's just that I don't believe Labour and the Greens would accept our present in govt, still less tolerate moves towards greater competition and/or privatisation. But if Labour can move away from its dogmatic detestation of the private-sector, then anything is possible - if you can find the numbers which I doubt. If we do end up in a Rainbow, it's reasonable to demand at least 2 Senators (Liz and Colm).

Well I believe it would be tough, but there is a huge amount of talent, and if they work together it could be a very good team

McDowell was always the sticking point in terms of public pronouncements about the PDs prior to this election. With him and Parlon gone, the PDs lose a lot of their rough edges - and can thus be sold as potential coalition partners.

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.

Leaving aside the potential instability - wouldn't a cabinet of ability be a big improvement on Cullen\Roche\Martin\O'Dea\O'Donoghue et al. They'd also have to keep sharp because of the internal pressures to perform from their partners.

I wouldn't put Barett in at all. We need to put someone young and fresh that we can use in the future like Varadkar or Naughten or Coveney.
