    Enda's Maths

Enda Kenny was quoted in today's Irish Times as saying: "Almost 60 per cent voted against the Government."

Does anybody here know what he was basing this figure on? Was it first preferences / seats / or something else?

He meant it in the same context as "almost 75% of the people voted against FG", i.e. just over 25% voted FOR them.
In Enda's world, this entitles him to be Taoiseach.
That is more difficult to explain, I admit............

He's making the point that just because the plurality of the popular vote is in your favour, that doesn't mean you have the right to become taoiseach. It's the majority of 166TDs in Dail eireann that vote for the Taoiseach.
