Offaly FG Cllr on Tax Defaulters list for €125k

This seems to have been missed by the mainstream media but Kinnitty publican and FG Offaly County Councillor Percy Clendennen has been hit by the Revenue for €125k for underdeclaring VAT. It was a revenue audit case.

Seeing as FG have expelled a Cllr for claiming illicit expenses surely defrauding the revenue and compliant taxpayers is on the same level?

Interestingly this Cllr is quoted in April in the Irish Times decrying the criminal activity of stealing beer kegs for scrap. What are his views on the crime of tax evasion I wonder?

Kinnitty based publican, Cllr Percy Clendennen (FG) said there was a “huge problem” with thieves targeting beer deliveries in his area.

Beer kegs are being delivered and “robbed before the publican gets to clear his yard,” he remarked. Mr Clendennen said he was aware of one keg delivery which arrived at 8.50am and was stolen by 8.55am.

Fine Gael have procedures to discipline/expel people who engage in minor acts of national sabotage such as not paying their taxes. Although, I dont think they used them when they were in opposition on a north county Dublin cllr or when the revenue found that the party itself was not fully tax compliant. They can hardly follow those precedents now they are in government. Can they? Will they? Answers on a VAT3 form to Mount Street.

No we should bring back Stalinism shouldn't we? That would keep you happy. Then all our politicians could have a Dacha whilst the plebs queued up for food. Have you forgotten?

only SF are tax compliant - diesel etc. And when revenue seize goods, vehicles etc, SF/IRA come along and steal the evidence, or burn the vehicles, and hey presto no court case at all.
