Someone was going to get the job, questions are how many prospective candidates were shortlisted and interviewed. And just to play devils advocate, the people may also get worse value for money and who signs off on the 24/7 overtime bill?

Agreed...they're not designing nuclear reactors either. Supporting a role as important as a TD, it would sure be nice to see a solid experience history in the role with a reputation for excellence in discharge of the duties of that role

My point is that most people nowadays are good at typing and making phone calls.

It's like looking for excellence in a taxi driver. Most people can drive a car and read a map.

So most people are good for 10% of the job of an average PA. Wunderbar!

just to point out that her salary will be paid for by the taxpayer and not out of his pocket, does that mean that all civil servants can now hire family members and wives as their secretarys, because going by some arguements here then they would be excellent value for money.

I think Sean Ardagh had two members of his own family working for him, Jnr Minister Michael Finneran also two members of his family. Michael Ring I think has a member of his own family so working also. Dont think there is a law against it. I think in Britain you can only employ just one member of your family=, not two as some do here.

Who will do the cooking and cleaning while the wife is doing the political work ?

This is a very bad precedent.
Maybe they will get one of those cheap Latvian slaves

thats why I had hope that a new young FG TD would not revert to the old ways of doing things, people have had enough of this crap and thats why they voted for a new way of doing things, in todays article Mr.Farrell when asked why did he employ his wife he told the journalist to mind his own business, that if true really gets my back up. when you are using tax payers money then nothing is nobodys business.

If she has decent qualification for the role I see no problem - a TDs PA needs to be someone they can trust, someone who can put in long hours etc etc.

It's more than just writing letters etc - it's a PR job too, and one that does the ground work of parliamentary work too.

I'd be interested to see her CV though...

EDIT - the article is here

    http://www.independent.ie/national-n...s-2595413.html

    She's a qualified barrister.
